Even though I haven’t been posting about menu planning I’ve been doing it. One thing that keeps me on track throughout the week is my menu plan. Not only does it keep me on track but it saves me money. I save money because before I plan my weekly meals I go through my fridge, pantry and freezers to see what I already have. I might have meals already made that are frozen, which a a complete bonus so I don’t have to make a thing or a ton of diced tomatoes so I know that I will make homemade sauce or chili that week. Why buy a bunch of new foods when you can use what you already have on hand.
One new thing I am going to start in 2014 is having a salad night. Now, I don’t need any sort of meat or fish in my salad but my husband will almost never eat a salad if it doesn’t have some sort of fish or meat in it. So I guess that means if I want my hubby to eat more greens I will need to throw some protein on there. LOL Are you menu planning in 2014? If so, are you trying anything new? REAL FOOD Menu Plan
Monday: I have a dish of Eggplant Parmesan (recipe coming soon) in the freezer so I will heat that up and serve with a yummy (no meat) salad…my husband will just have to deal with my meatless Monday meal.
Tuesday: Trying a updated “healthier” version of a classic – Tuna Casserole
Wednesday: Salad Night made with Garlic Shrimp
Friday: I am going to make it an easy night. Grilled Cheese with Tomato Soup
Saturday: I have some ribs in the freezer so I plan on making this rib recipe that I’ve had my eye on for awhile. I think I will make cauliflower mashed potatoes to go with it or Asian slaw…haven’t decided yet.
Sunday: It’s going to be a football Sunday in our house and I can’t think of anything better to serve than Chili. My friend over at The Vintage Mom gave me this great recipe for Quinoa Chicken Chili so I am going to give it a try.
