Overnight Crock Pot Oatmeal

Who doesn’t find it challenging in the mornings, sometimes even getting the kiddos out of bed and dresses is a full time job. So I can imagine that making a healthy breakfast each day can be a bit daunting. I love to make crock pot oats which I start the night before so breakfast is ready to go once we are in the morning. When I make this recipe I use oat groats, have you ever heard of them before?oats heaped in a glass cup on wooden table

I did a bit of research on the web and found out that oat groats are whole, minimally processed oats. Because they have not been extensively processed, they retain a higher nutritional value than regular oats. When oat groats are produced, the oats are hulled, removing the outer husk (sort of like corn) and then you have the whole grain. Most of the time they are processed into a range of products including rolled oats and oat flour or you can buy them as oat groats as I did. Here is more information on the healthiest oats and why they are good for you.

Here is the easiest overnight crock pot oatmeal  recipe you will ever make, and I hope your family likes it as much as mine do.

Total time:
Serves: 6
  • 1½ cups Oat Groats or Steel Cut Oats
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cinnamon sticks or 1 TB ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup raw brown sugar
  1. Add all ingredients into the crock pot and let cook on low for about 8-10 hours.

    Hi Trina,

I would love to try this recipe. however, I am wondering if you think it is possible to sub the milk for almond, soy or coconut milk instead. Also, trying to keep the sugar out as much as possible this year. Do you think it would taste too bland without the raw brown sugar? Maybe I could substitute honey, instead, to give it the sweetness. What do you think?

This is fabulous! Literally the best oatmeal I’ve ever had. So easy, too. Thank you!

Where I live, hunting is against the law on Sundays and later than thirty minutes past sunset.

I have outlined six critical factors to keep in mind when attempting find the correct outfitter.
Water and drinks, compass, make-up and knife are some
of the few things that are often brought.
