Our children are used to observing the world on TV but when you have the opportunity to show children entertainment which is “outside the box” it’s exciting. Exposing children to the theater is key for maximizing learning and development potential. It also helps children learn how to express their feeling physically and emotionally in a healthy manner.
As we all know that the Theater can be much more expensive than going to the movie theater. Taking your child to an on stage performance is something special that you can do for a birthday or holiday gift. Now that my children are older and can understand the concept of experiences vs material gifts we have chosen to offer them things we can do together instead of a party. It not only brings our family closer but also broadens their perspective on life.
Recently I had the opportunity to take the boys to the performance of Joseph at the Sights and Sounds Theatre. To be honest I have never heard of Sights and Sounds Theatre until recently and it’s just up the road about an hour in Lancaster PA. You are surrounded by beautiful hills and farmland throughout Lancaster then you arrive to this beautiful theatre, we were truly amazed of how grand it was.
The show we saw was Joseph which is currently playing now until the 17th of October. Joseph was an inspiring story of forgiveness. Joseph’s story of forgiveness and integrity has made this story timeless and can be relateable to adults and children.
I’ve been to many plays and I can honestly say I’ve never seen a stage so grand. The kids and I were amazed by the lavish Egyptian staging, colorful characters and LIVE ANIMALS. I wish I could of taken photos of the performance but that was off limits, it was truly something to see. The characters were electrifying and because it was musical the boys were on the edge of their seats throughout the whole show.
I think regardless if you are religious you would love seeing this musical or any of the shows that are performed at Sights and Sounds. The true message behind the story of forgiveness everyone can relate to. This is also a great teachable moment for parents. You can open up the conversation of how in your own life you can live in a more kind way without judgement.
While you are out in the Lancaster area make it a day trip or even overnight. While we were there we saw some sights, enjoyed the beautiful countryside and had some traditional Amish food. I can say we will definitely be back for another show.
Disclosure: I was given tickets for my family to see Joseph at the Sights and Sounds Theatre in Lancaster. As always all opinions are my own.
