Homemade Vapor Rub Recipe

The flu and cold season is coming in HOT and its not slowing down. Widespread influenza activity was reported by 43 states, an increase from 36 states during the previous week…YIKES! So many of my friends and family have been fighting colds/flu – you name it they have had it.  In our family, my oldest fought off some sort of cold/allergy thing 3 different times, my youngest once and I started feeling lousy off and on throughout the holidays. It never fails, I ALWAYS get a sinus infection around Christmas.  Thankfully not this year! (knock on wood).

I hate using nasty chemicals, not to say we are totally chemical free in our house but we are about 95% there. Since using essential oils we have not used any sort of commercial cold/flu product which has made me VERY HAPPY! Many things I’ve used helped support my immune system throughout these last few month. One thing I love is this homemade vapor rub that has protected our bodies and contributed to better overall health.

OK, this is kind of gross but, you know I am going to share. My son was playing outside and I knew he was a bit congested. He ran into the house with snot pretty much running down his face. Picture a toddler that is congested and then sneezes….it’s everywhere! My son is 9 and that is what he looked like. Thankfully he came in the house to get a tissue instead of rubbing it on the sleeve of his coat…he has been known to do that.

Any whoo…so I started searching the internet for some sort of rub I could make to contribute to the betterment of his overall health. I am still building my oil collection so I used what I had on hand.

Homemade Vapor Rub Recipe

Ingredients

10 Drops R.C

6 Drops Lemon Essential Oil

6 Drops Peppermint

3 Drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil

3 Drops Thieves

2 Tablespoons Coconut Oil

Directions

In a small bowl add all the ingredients and continue to stir until and coconut oil and essential oils are incorporated. Place in a jar with a tight fitting lid. I had a small condiment jar lying around which works perfect for stuff like this. That’s it…pretty easy huh?

What are some of your favorite homemade remedies? I am always looking for more ways to ditch the drugstore. Learn how essential oils can help you and your family in your everyday life.
