When I received the invitation for the Disney Social Media Conference I was shocked, I kind of thought it was a mistake. After I regained my composure my husband and I sat down to discuss this amazing opportunity. We have always WANTED to take the kids to Disney but it was never in the budget. We quickly decided, this was a sign….our time was now! Bam! Trip booked and then we waited…….. six very long weeks before we told the boys. Trust me it was VERY hard to keep this secret but we pulled it off.
My boys are going to hate me one day for plastering them all over the internet
So we made it to the airport and we were on our way to Disney for our very first major family vacation together, just the 4 of us. There were so many amazing things about our trip, but I thought I’d start with sharing some of my favorite things that made the main conference memorable for me and my family.
The Disney Social Media Weekend Celebration
Every year the Disney Social Media Celebration focuses on a theme, this year was creativity which resonated with me personally and professionally. As you can imagine it wasn’t hard for the Disney peeps to come up with ways to show us their creativity. I was truly amazed at the creativity Disney showed through everything they do. I mean, I knew Disney goes all out but the pure attention to detail is amazing. Disney just does it right!
Everyone loves a good party right? I’ve been to a lot conferences and they all have parties, Disney topped them all. Thursday evening was the start of the conference with an amazing dinner and dance party hosted by Disney Citizenship.
I know, it’s sideways but still very cool
Our oldest was a bit bummed because he thought he couldn’t dance. My hubby then took him on the dance floor and explained to him that it’s how music makes you move as it moves through you and that any dancing is good dancing as long as it’s from the soul…then they moved to the dance floor and showed him some moves.
We ended the night at the IllumiNations Sparking Dessert Party in Epcot. We had front row seats for the fireworks which I have to say were truly spectacular and I don’t get too excited about fireworks.
Friday evening was the Disney Beach Bash at The Yacht Club. The kids met new friends and loved playing in the sand. Another amazing night of fun food and drinks and the weather couldn’t of been more perfect.
Meet & Greets with The Characters
We have some amazing opportunities to meet some of our favorite Disney characters throughout the time at Disney. I was first greeted by Mickey and I even stole a kiss. The kids couldn’t believe their eyes when they were able to meet Baymax and Hiro, they even gave him a hug. They kept saying over and over again…”Mom Baymax is REAL.”
The actual conference happened on Friday which was sponsored by Alamo. As I spent the day listening to some amazing speakers my family spent the day touring around Animal Kingdom. I have to say I was a bit jealous when they told me about the riding the rapids.
Chef Gary from Disney’s Magic of Healthy Living sharing with us how Disney is making it healthier for families. I was SO EXCITED to hear all the amazing things that Disney within the parks and for parents and children.
Eva Smith sharing Pinterest secrets and tips.
Jonas Rivera the producer of Disney’s Inside Out explaining how intense it was to make the movie, btw…we got a great sneak peek of the movie and I CANNOT wait to see the rest of it.
Donald Driver former wide receiver for the Green Bay Packers gave an emotional speech that touched me personally and also inspired me to think about why I started blogging and what I want my path to be in the future.
Chris Brogan gave us amazing insight on social media.
Jeffrey Epstein gave us the low down on Disney D23, btw…when did Disney start for you?
Jessica Shyba sharing her amazing story of how her blogging career took off from some sweet photos.
Dr. Tanya Altmann shared how Disney gives children the tools to be creative and use their imagination through Disney Imagicademy.
Janice Balgemino shared all the new gaming and apps coming how through Disney Infinity. We even got the new Mickey and Minnie!
Vivienne Harr was one speaker that surprised and truly inspired me as a mother to do better at allowing my children to follow their dreams and encourage them to stand up for what they are passion about. You see, Vivienne is 11 years old and along with her parents founded MAKE A STAND Foundation. When Vivienne was just 8 years old she saw a photo of two boys from Nepal living in modern day slavery. From that day on she made it her mission to raise $100,000 to help end childhood salvery. She set up her stand for 365 days straight, rain or shine to meet her goal. Vivianne reminded us that compassion is not compassion without ACTION. Vivienne also reminded us that you don’t have to be big or powerful to change the world, because boy this little girl is changing the world BIG TIME!
After the main conference we started Mother’s Day with a FUN RUN hosted by Go Go Squeez. I have to be honest, I didn’t attend the run because my alarm didn’t go off. I was so bummed because Epcot was opened before hours just for us to run throughout. I did make it with my little guys to a beautiful Mother’s Day brunch that only Disney could pull off. Seriously, what an amazing way to celebrate Mother’s Day!
Attending the Disney Social Media Celebration was truly a magical experience from beginning to end. I cannot say enough about how the planning team and Disney Cast Members went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect. I realize we got extra perks because of the conference but I can guarantee that everyone that spends time at Disney will receive the same magical service. We travel a lot as a family but it’s mainly local or with other family members. For us to do this trip on our own just US was a huge treat and something we really needed. Without this opportunity we would still be waiting for Mickey. I cannot thank Disney Social Media Moms and the Disney organization enough for making our dreams come true.
Looking forward to sharing more magical Disney experiences with you —> so stay tuned!
