For those of you that have followed along my O’Boy! Organic for awhile now know that I’ve done the Susan G. Komen 3 Day Walk before. Last year I was a newbie and before it started I actually thought I wouldn’t finish. Once my 3 day journey began, I never looked back. Trust me, I had my moments during those 60 miles but every step was worth it. Everyone has a story and does the walk for a reason. Either they are a survivor themselves, know someone that has or has had breast cancer or lost someone they loved.
My Story….My mom was a breast cancer survivor of 10 years and then developed lung cancer, she lost that battle on June 17, 2013. The loss of my mom continues to be a struggle personally. Doing the 3 day race for me was a way to heal and embrace life again and remember my mom’s own life and not her death. For me those 3 days were a healing process and I became a stronger person because of it.
The Walk….Wondering what the 3 Day Walk is all about, here is a sneak peek from last years event. From the very first moment at the Opening Ceremony until we reached the finish line 60 miles later we felt the Philly love. It was truly amazing to see so many supporters lining the streets, decorating their homes and fellow walkers cheering one another on. One moment that stuck with me throughout the weekend was noticing that you didn’t celebrate the first walker coming through the door each evening but we celebrated the last.
From the beginning until the very end the Susan G. Komen 3 Day Walk was amazing, truly life changing for me. If you want to do something BIG this is it. Remember YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! This isn’t just a walk it’s a journey of a lifetime and the biggest thing you can do to help end breast cancer FOREVER!
When you do a Susan G. Komen walk 75% of the net proceeds raised help support Susan G. Komen’s Research and Training Grant Program and large public health outreach programs for women and men facing breast cancer, while the remaining 25% helps fund local community and Affiliate support and outreach programs.
