I am officially telling the whole world that I’ve committed to doing the Susan G. Koman 3 Day Walk in Philadelphia this September. Last month I was at the Philadelphia Mom Mixer and had a chance to meet some of the women behind the Philadelphia 3 Day walk. I have to say that meeting them for me was not an accident. I was meant to meet them that day. I was meant to hear how much the walk meant to Sherri from Super Exhausted when she did it back in 2001. I was meant to get emotional. I was meant to have these stories tug at my heart. I was meant to do this race!
Why you might ask? Some of you may remember me sharing my story of losing my mom last summer to cancer. My mom was a breast cancer survivor of 10 years and then developed lung cancer, she lost that battle on June 17, 2013. The loss of my mom has been a very hard struggle for me personally and one that I haven’t fully dealt with. This 3 day race for me is a way to heal and embrace life again and remember my mom’s own life and not her death. I think about how much I miss her that I’ve almost forgotten about what she meant to me when she was alive.
I’ve been going through some personal issues lately, and I need to channel her inner strength that she carried with her through her life. Throughout the training and race I hope to regain some of my own inner strength, that I lost when I lost my mom almost a year ago. For me this is personal, as I am sure it’s for so many people that do this crazy 60 mile race in 3 days. We all have a story, we all have a reason for doing it, but in the end we are doing this 60 mile race to help fight breast cancer. When you commit to do this 3 day race you are honoring someone you love who is currently battling breast cancer or in memory of someone you’ve lost. It’s about creating memories and for me it’s a healing process. In the end we are all working towards the same goal – A WORLD WITHOUT CANCER!
I was given this opportunity to do the Susan G. Komen Philadelphia 3 Day as part of the media. I will be sharing along with my good friend Jessica from Eat.Sleep.Be weekly “Wellness Wednesday” updates of our training progress and ways we can help fight cancer. We are encouraging others to be an inspiration and link up their fitness/ health tips, cancer survival inspirations and stories. Share your tips, recipes that will help with training and or inspirational posts so that others can be inspired too. You can follow along in our journey to the 3 Day by using the hashtag #Bloggers4Boobs – cute huh?
Please help us kick cancer’s ass by donating and help me reach my goal of $2000 before race day. Even if you give just $5 you are committing to saving someone’s life. Did you know that 1 in 8 women in the US will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime? How has breast cancer affected your life?
