As a mother of 2 semi picky boys I continue on a daily basis try and make sure they are getting enough fiber and protein in their diet. This also applies to me as well. I am on a mission to lose weight and get back in shape and making a real food protein smoothie for breakfast or lunch has given me lots of energy and curved my appetite. These smoothies are easy to make and something you can do daily as part of breakfast, lunch or snack. You can even freeze most and make ice pops for the kids on those hot summer days.
15 REAL FOOD Protein Smoothies
Protein Grain Smoothie – By putting quinoa and amaranth you are easily able to add natural protein to any smoothie. My suggestion to is to cook a batch and place it in the freeze and take out 1/2 servings for your daily smoothie. When using a Blendtec or other powerful blender you cannot even tell the grains are in the smoothie.
Banana Avocado Protein Shake – One of our favorite things to make in the morning for breakfast is this Banana Avocado Protein Shake. It’s so filling, has a ton of protein, it’s healthy and best of all my boys LOVE IT!
Raw Kefir Banana Smoothie – Raw Kefir is made with REAL Kefir grain not the powder. Kefir, which means ‘feel good” in Turkish, is an ancient cultured, enzyme-rich food filled with friendly micro-organisms that help balance your “inner ecosystem” to maintain optimal health and strengthen immunity.
Peanut Butter Cup Smoothie – Ok, this could really be dessert! A healthy one at that because it’s made with all real foods.
Nutella Lactation Smoothie – lactation boosting foods like oatmeal or flax seed, and fat adding foods like avocado help during growth spurts. You can also try a Peanut Butter Apple Pie Lactation Boosting Smoothie or a Chocolate Peanut Butter Lactation Boosting Smoothie – no lactating required. LOL
Vanilla Pineapple Green Smoothie – When you add leafy greens like spinach or kale, you can get a bitter taste and that has to be balanced with at least double the amount in sweets to taste yummy. An avocado, doesn’t really have a taste, but makes something creamier than normal.
Cinnamon Roll Protein Shake – Now this is something I’d give my kids as a treat, but I’d either leave out the sweetener or use honey.
Pink Grapefruit Walnut Smoothie – This smoothie is absolutely amazing! It looks just like a white Russian, but it certainly doesn’t taste like one. It’s tangy and creamy all at the same time. So if you like grapefruit, give this one a try.
Three Green Smoothie – This smoothie provide all of the wonderful nutrients to your body and it’s a great way to get in those recommended servings of fruits and vegetables.
Peanut Butter Breakfast Smoothie – This is a great smoothie for those mornings that you sleep in late, racing around the house trying to get everyone out the door but don’t have time for a sit down meal. This will give you the energy you need to start the day and fill you up until lunch.
Blueberry Almond Smoothie – This is a perfect smoothie for those days that you don’t have any energy or just getting rid of a cold, you bounce right back.
Power Smoothie – Does your metabolism need a boost? This smoothie is high in protein which is one of the things you need to get your metabolism going and keep going throughout the day.
Very Berry Smoothie – This one is perfect for kids and can be made into freeze pops for a fun healthy treat.
My suggestion is to use (if you want) RAW PROTEIN POWDER because protein powders are so ubiquitous these days, it’s hard to tell which ones are worth the money, healthy and don’t contain a bunch of chemical preservatives. When adding a bit of raw protein powder to your smoothie it gives you calories and energy before a workout.
